However, even at its discounted cost, it competes with significantly stronger white removal options: **Swords to Plowshares** and **Path to Exile** are far more efficient at one mana with no timing restriction; **Lay Down Arms**, **Get Lost**, and **Fateful Absence** are also more flexible and reliable in most formats; and in Commander, staples like **Generous Gift** offer broader utility. Because Ajani’s Response costs five mana at baseline and only discounts under a common but still conditional scenario, it is generally outclassed and unlikely to see competitive play, though it could be a flavorful or budget inclusion in casual mono-white control builds.
