About Balduvian Fallen

Balduvian Fallen, Creature — zombie, designed by Dave Kendall first released in Jul, 2006 in the set Coldsnap.

A deck that focuses on generating a lot of black and red mana quickly, such as a Rakdos aggro or midrange deck, would benefit from using Balduvian Fallen due to its ability to grow in power with each cumulative upkeep paid using {B} or {R}. However, there are potentially better options available, such as Phyrexian Crusader, which offers infect and protection from red and white, making it a more resilient threat in certain matchups. Balduvian Fallen could see play in specific metas where its abilities align well with the deck's strategy, but it may not be a staple card in most competitive decks.

Rules

10/01/08

Paying cumulative upkeep is always optional. If it’s not paid, the permanent with cumulative upkeep is sacrificed. Partial payments of the total cumulative upkeep cost can’t be made. For example, if a permanent with “cumulative upkeep ” has three age counters on it when its cumulative upkeep ability triggers, it gets another age counter and then its controller chooses to either pay or sacrifice the permanent.
