Rock Hydra, Creature — hydra, designed by Jeff A. Menges first released in Aug, 1993 in the set Limited Edition Alpha and was printed exactly in 11 different ways.
A deck that focuses on board control and incremental advantage would benefit from using Rock Hydra, as it can be a resilient threat that can grow in power over time while also providing damage prevention utility. However, in competitive Magic: the Gathering play, there are likely better options available for similar mana costs that offer more immediate impact or versatility, such as creatures with evasion or powerful abilities. Rock Hydra may not see much play in high-level competitive decks, but it could still be a fun and flavorful choice for casual or thematic decks.

You can activate the activated ability that prevents damage any time, even if no source seems likely to deal damage to you in the near future. It will prevent the next 1 damage that would be dealt this turn, even if that turns out to be much later in the turn.
