It synergizes well with cards that deal damage to you or require you to sacrifice permanents, like Liliana of the Veil or Dark Confidant. However, there are arguably better cards for similar strategies, such as Bitterblossom, which provides consistent board presence and life loss without the drawback of sacrificing permanents.
