About Invasive Surgery

Invasive Surgery, Instant, designed by Steven Belledin first released in Apr, 2016 in the set Shadows over Innistrad and was printed exactly in 3 different ways.

This card, Invasive Surgery, would be beneficial in a control deck that focuses on disrupting the opponent's game plan by countering key sorcery spells and utilizing the Delirium ability to exile multiple copies of the same spell from the opponent's graveyard, hand, and library. While Invasive Surgery can be a powerful tool in the right situation, there are other more versatile and impactful counterspells like Force of Will or Mana Drain that are commonly seen in competitive play and may be more effective overall. However, Invasive Surgery could still see play in specific metagames where sorcery spells are prevalent and its Delirium ability can be consistently activated.

Rules

04/08/16

In some rare cases, you can have a token or a copy of a spell in your graveyard at the moment that an object’s delirium ability counts the card types among cards in your graveyard, before that token or copy ceases to exist. Because tokens and copies of spells are not cards, even if they are copies of cards, their types will never be counted.

04/08/16

Invasive Surgery’s delirium ability isn’t checked until after the sorcery spell has been countered. If that spell is put into your graveyard, it will be counted.

04/08/16

The number of card types matters, not the number of cards. For example, Wicker Witch (an artifact creature) along with Catalog (an instant) and Chaplain’s Blessing (a sorcery) will enable delirium.
