About Emergent Ultimatum

Emergent Ultimatum, Sorcery, designed by Zack Stella first released in Apr, 2020 in the set Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths and was printed exactly in 8 different ways. It's a key card in 1 combos.

This card would benefit a control deck that focuses on tutoring specific monocolored cards to deal with various threats or to set up a win condition. While Emergent Ultimatum can be powerful in the right deck, it may be considered too slow and mana-intensive compared to other options like Gifts Ungiven or Intuition, which offer similar effects at a lower cost and without the downside of letting the opponent choose. Ultimately, its playability would depend on the specific strategy and meta of the format it's being used in.

A monocolored card is exactly one of white, blue, black, red, or green and no other colors. A colorless card isn’t monocolored.

If you cast a spell “without paying its mana cost,” you can’t choose to cast it for any alternative costs. You can, however, pay additional costs, such as kicker costs. If the card has any mandatory additional costs, such as that of Cathartic Reunion, those must be paid to cast the card.

If you wish to cast any exiled cards, you do so as part of the resolution of Emergent Ultimatum. You can’t wait to cast them later. Timing permissions based on a card’s type are ignored.
