About Daydream
Daydream, Sorcery, designed by Nia Kovalevski first released in Apr, 2026 in the set Secrets of Strixhaven.
Daydream fits best in white-based blink/value decks in formats like Commander or casual Constructed, especially those built around enter-the-battlefield (ETB) effects (e.g., creatures like Spirited Companion, Recruiter of the Guard, or Solitude) or +1/+1 counter synergies, since it protects a creature from removal, retriggers ETB abilities, and permanently grows it; it also works nicely in Aristocrats-style shells to dodge exile-based removal and reuse utility creatures. However, in most competitive formats it would likely be outclassed by more efficient or flexible options like Ephemerate (cheaper and rebounds for a second blink), Cloudshift (one mana instant), or more powerful protection spells like Teferi’s Protection or Flawless Maneuver in Commander, depending on the deck’s goals. The flashback gives Daydream decent late-game value, but at three mana total it’s slower than the best blink spells, so it would probably see play mainly in slower, synergy-driven Commander decks rather
