About Zog, Triceraton Castaway

Zog, Triceraton Castaway, Legendary creature — dinosaur soldier, designed by Simon Dominic first released in Feb, 2026 in the set Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Zog, Triceraton Castaway would fit best in aggressive or midrange red-based Commander (EDH) decks that care about combat pressure, tribal Dinosaur synergy, or land consistency—especially in Gruul (red-green) builds where trample and reach help push damage through and block flyers, and Mountaincycling ensures you hit land drops or fix colors in multicolor decks. However, at five mana for what is essentially a combat-focused body with a temporary “can’t block” effect, it’s underpowered compared to stronger options like Glorybringer (immediate hasty pressure and repeatable removal), Goldspan Dragon (massive value and mana advantage), or even Charging Monstrosaur in Dinosaur builds for cheaper haste damage; in Commander, Etali, Primal Storm or Bonehoard Dracosaur provide far greater impact at similar or slightly higher costs. The Mountaincycling is nice for consistency, but overall the card is likely below competitive standards and would mostly see play in casual, tribal Dinosaur, or flavo
