Reluctant Dounguard fits best in a white go-wide or token-based deck that can consistently trigger its counter‑removal ability by playing multiple creatures in succession, such as a Selesnya counters deck or a white weenie build that curves out with cheap creatures; however, even in those shells it is generally underpowered because it enters as a 0/2 for three mana and requires additional setup just to become a reasonable body, making it too slow and low-impact for most formats.
