Shrike Harpy, Creature — harpy, designed by Christopher Moeller first released in May, 2020 in the set Born of the Gods.
A deck that focuses on sacrificing opponents' creatures or controlling the board would benefit from using Shrike Harpy in Magic: the Gathering. While Shrike Harpy can be a powerful addition to such a strategy, there are other cards like Grave Pact or Butcher of Malakir that offer similar effects more efficiently. Shrike Harpy could see play in certain niche decks, but may not be a top choice in more competitive environments due to its higher mana cost and the potential for opponents to mitigate its abilities through the Tribute mechanic.

For effects that check which player put counters on the entering creature, the player chosen to pay tribute puts those counters on it, not the creature’s controller.

Players can’t respond to the tribute decision before the creature enters the battlefield. That is, if the opponent doesn’t pay tribute, the triggered ability will trigger before any player has a chance to remove the creature.

The choice of whether to pay tribute is made as the creature with tribute is entering the battlefield. At that point, it’s too late to respond to the creature spell. For example, in a multiplayer game, opponents won’t know whether tribute will be paid or which opponent will be chosen to pay tribute or not when deciding whether to counter the creature spell.

The opponent you target with the triggered ability doesn’t have to be the same opponent you chose to pay tribute or not.
