A control deck that focuses on card advantage and protecting key creatures would benefit from including Sphinx of Jwar Isle in its strategy. While Sphinx of Jwar Isle offers flying, shroud, and the ability to look at the top card of your library, there are potentially better options such as Torrential Gearhulk, which provides a similar effect with the added bonus of casting an instant from your graveyard. However, Sphinx of Jwar Isle could still see play in decks that require a flying threat with protection.

Essentially, Sphinx of Jwar Isle lets you play with the top card of your library revealed only to you. Knowing what that card is becomes part of the information you have access to, just like you can look at the cards in your hand. You may look at the top card of your library whenever you want, even if you don’t have priority. This action doesn’t use the stack.
