The Immortal Sun would be best suited for a control or midrange deck that focuses on card advantage and creature buffs, as well as reducing the cost of spells. While it provides powerful benefits, there are better options for specific strategies, such as Vedalken Orrery for instant-speed plays or Rhystic Study for card draw in blue decks. The Immortal Sun could see play in certain metagames where planeswalker abilities are prevalent, but its high mana cost may limit its inclusion in competitive decks.

To determine the total cost of a spell, start with the mana cost or alternative cost you’re paying, add any cost increases, then apply any cost reductions. The converted mana cost of the spell remains unchanged, no matter what the total cost to cast it was.
