A deck focused on tempo and board control would benefit from including Rescuer Sphinx, as it provides a way to protect key nonland permanents while also developing a threat in the air. However, in a competitive Magic: The Gathering environment, there are more efficient options available such as Spellstutter Sprite or Vendilion Clique in blue tempo decks, which offer more immediate impact and disruption. Rescuer Sphinx could see play in more casual or budget decks looking for a versatile flying creature with a bounce effect.

If Rescuer Sphinx somehow enters the battlefield at the same time as another permanent, you can’t return that permanent. You may choose only permanents that are already on the battlefield.

You choose whether to return a nonland permanent and which one to return for Rescuer Sphinx’s ability while it’s entering the battlefield. No player may take actions between the time you choose which permanent to return and the time Rescuer Sphinx is on the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter.
