The Cruelty of Gix would benefit a control deck that focuses on disrupting the opponent's hand and graveyard while also gaining card advantage. However, there are better cards for similar effects, such as Thoughtseize for hand disruption and Reanimate for graveyard recursion. The Cruelty of Gix may not see much play in competitive Magic: The Gathering decks due to its high mana cost and the availability of more efficient options.
